Virtually all machines use low-wattage electrical pulses to operate the coin hoppers, which pay out the coins from the bank. Usually, having a win-bank will allow the 'collect' button to be pressed and coins will drop out. Basically, by placing this device in certain places dependent on what make of machine it is (one place on each type of machine by the way!) a regulated pulse is generated, by-passing the machine's need for a win-bank to be in place.
This in turn operates the machines hopper, and it pays out either 2,3, or 5 coins (depending on the maximum amount each machine pays per press of 'collect' button) each time the device is clicked.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 3 DEVICES Fruit Machine Emptiers SELL, I.E. THE MICRO/RF, THE INFRARED AND THE ELECTRONIC HOPPER EMPTIER??
Well, to put it simply, the IR DEVICE only affects the hopper mechanisms and the coin-in mechanisms, and the machine will need to be played normally for the free coins. It is only used when collecting the bank, or adding coins. During these processes, the infrared counters on the machine are compromised, resulting in the machine paying out extra coins, or crediting the plays as if more coins have been inserted than actual. The device is operated remotely, thus silent and discreet, suitable for places where you are observed easily. It is best for jackpots of up to £50, as wins are regular.
The MICRO/RF doesn't affect the coin mechanisms, but energises the machines program chip, thus producing free/extra wins and default banks or wins/features. Again it is remotely operated, no need to contact the machine. As with the IR DEVICE it is used during normal play. As it can produce default wins from the machines program, it is useful especially for the large jackpot ones, where wins are less frequent. Many a player has dumped £1000+ after merely inserting a few coins!! They are in other terms 'point-and-play' devices.
The Hopper Coin Dumper is actually contacted on certain places (revealed in the instructions) on the machine. Unlike the other 2 above, it needs NO CREDITS or playing to get the coins out. On a few machines, these 'contact points' are only made 'live' by inserting a refill key, although as it says in the description, these are a small minority. Also, you have to have it in your hand, unlike the other 2 which can be hidden in pockets etc. It is however, compact and easily hidden in the hand.
